Places to VisitTura - The
Cultural and Administrative Center of the Garo Tribals
Tura provides some of the finest views of the hills against
a backdrop of the plains, and the sweeping curve of the
mighty Brahmaputra. Tura peak (1,400) is reached by a five
kilometer trek which is part hiking, part rock-climbing.
From Tura, visitor can go to two exotic wildlife reserves.
Balpakram: A sanctuary of the typical fauna of the
region. The other, noted mainly for the birds, is in the
Namhak Lake-Simsang river area. The famous limestone caves
of Siju are located quite near the Namphak Lake Simasang
river game reserve. The formations of stalctites and
stalagmites in these caves are said to resemble those in the
famous Blue Grotto in the Isle of Capri. The adjoining
stream is good for angling.
